Our History
Our History
1975 is the year our story begins. We were created with the pioneering spirit to attend the commercial diving market with practicality and convenience in mind, without giving up on safety and quality, of course. Today, Continental is a reference in its market, with projects successfully completed throughout the country.
About Our History
Founded in 1975, Serviços Marítimos Continental has been involved in challenging projects since its beginning. Its history reveals a deep commitment to the development and performance of services that not only meet, but also exceed its clients’ expectations. That started with its founder Luiz Carlos Ritzmann, who provided diving services at the oil discharge terminal facilities in the city of São Francisco do Sul, State of Santa Catarina, Brazil.
Soon after the inauguration of the terminal, an accident caused by a tanker collision into the single buoy required its removal for repairs. S. M. Continental was responsible for the removal and reinstallation of the single buoys, performing the work in a record time of 30 days (exceeding the estimated period would result in the complete shutdown of the newly opened refinery in Araucária – REPAR). Still in the 1970’s, taking advantage of a contract executed with the company Vale do Rio Doce to perform dredging services along the shoulder of the Tubarão Field, the company established its base of operations in the city of Vitória, State of Espírito Santo.
In 1979, accompanying its main client at the time, Petrobras, in the development of new fronts in the Campos Basin, the company moved from Vitória to the city of Macaé, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, where it keeps its base to date.
From 1993 on, S. M. Continental repositioned its profile and started to specialize in underwater inspection and maintenance services, this being its core business.
In 2006, through the joint effort of all its employees to make the company compliant with the appropriate procedures, it obtained the ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications and, since then, it has kept the Integrated Management System in place. Still in search for continuous improvement of its management system and seeking to formalize its commitment to environmental preservation in the performance of its activities, Continental obtained the ISO 14001 certification.
Since the first certification until today, Continental’s Quality, Safety, Health and Environmental Management System, have been constantly audited, and the company has successfully maintained all its certifications.
Throughout its history, Continental has been providing services to its clients throughout the country, always working with full commitment and excellence, being, today, a reference in the industry.
Since August 2019, Continental signed a partnership agreement with James Fisher and Sons plc that aims to strengthen its power to serve the Brazilian market.
James Fisher is a global company, a leading provider of specialist marine engineering services for the oil and gas, renewable energy, defense, infrastructure, ports and terminals, transportation and logistics markets.
